Our kids fishing program is designed to get kids ages 8-18+ outside, away from their screens and interacting with Long Island's exceptional marine environment. No experience is necessary, just an interest in the outdoors, the marine environment, and fishing.

A typical day has us fishing just minutes from the dock. Our location offers terrific fishing opportunities in typically a calm water setting.

 Camp Format

  • Go over fishing conditions and targeted species for each day
  • Campers will participate in preperation of rods, rigs and bait.
  • Practice fishing methods that will be utilized
  • Review of boat safety equipment and safety rules
  • Depart for our fishing destination and begin our fishing adventure
  • Return to our dock and learn how to prepare harvested fish for the table
We focus on the sport of fishing rather than bringing home a cooler full of fillets, typically only keeping a few each trip.

Skills to be learned:

  • Casting Techniques: Campers get hands-on practice with different casting methods. Learning how to cast accurately and efficiently is essential for successful fishing.

  • Knot Tying: Knots play a crucial role in fishing. Campers learn various knots, including the improved clinch knot, Palomar knot, and loop knot. These skills are essential for securing hooks, lures, and other tackle.

  • Fish Identification: Understanding different fish species is essential for ethical fishing practices. Campers learn to identify common fish, their habitats, and behaviors. This knowledge helps them make informed decisions about catch-and-release or catch-and-eat fishing.

  • Bait Selection: Choosing the right bait is an art. Campers explore natural baits (like worms and clams) and artificial lures (such as lures and jigs). They learn when and how to use each type effectively.

  • Equipment Care: Proper care of fishing gear ensures its longevity. Campers learn how to clean and maintain fishing rods, reels, lines, and other equipment. This skill contributes to responsible outdoor practices.

  • Safe Fish Handling: Camps emphasize safe fish extraction techniques. Campers learn how to handle fish gently, remove hooks, and release them back into the water without causing harm.

  • Patience and Persistence: Fishing requires patience and persistence. Campers learn to appreciate the process, whether they catch fish or not. These qualities extend beyond fishing and apply to various life situations.

  • Environmental Awareness: Fishing camps often emphasize conservation and environmental stewardship. Campers gain an appreciation for aquatic ecosystems, water quality, and the need to protect natural resources.
